cam·ber
/ˈkambər/
noun
1. The slightly convex or arched shape of a road or other horizontal surface.
2. From Old French, cambre.
The nature of everything we do at Are Studio is centered around principles of softness and ease. Our SS19 collection expands on these principles to further explore concepts of form and structure. The Camber bag is an organic culmination of these studies. We asked ourselves, how might something structured contain an inherent capability to bend or fold? What movements or pressures allow for something firm to yield? Where can the balance between firmness and softness be found?
Some answers to these questions are manifested in its rounded, horseshoe-like shape and in the curtain-like way the gussets fold, collecting themselves while drawing in when the bag is closed. All of these intersections of form create a uniqueness to the Camber, while lending itself to the pursuit of versatility. It can be hand-held, rest delicately at the wrist, or worn long over the shoulder.
Like the opposing concepts we sought to connect and explore, the Camber study of form exists in the unexpected. Whether carried as a daily staple or reserved for special occasions, it acts as punctuation in the present moment.
